Founded in 1709, Beaufort is the county seat of Carteret County, also known as the Crystal Coast. It has been important as a Seaport since the time of Blackbeard and today is the home of the Beaufort Historic Association and a popular destination on the Atlantic coast. Pronounced 'Bo-furt' by natives, the picturesque and historic 'Beaufort Town' was established as a seaport with the right to collect customs, in 1722. During the American Revolution, it was the third largest port in the state. |

These are pictures of the "Big Rock" Fishing Tournament held each year in Moorhead City. Morehead City and Beaufort are within 3 miles of each other. The big rock is the Largest Marlin Fishing Tournament in the world and is held each June for 1 week. The Grand Prize reaches upwards of $1,000,000. |
